Kandy is famed as Sri Lanka’s last feudal kingdom and the site of the Temple of the Tooth containing a sacred Buddha relic. It is a world-renowned place of Buddhist worship, where the left canine tooth of Gautama Buddha is enshrined. The temple, which is venerated by thousands of local and foreign devotees, was named a UNESCO World heritage Site in 1988.

Also Peradeniya Botanical Garden. Situated in Kandy’s suburb of Peradeniya, the spectacular garden dates to 1371. It is enclosed on three sides by a large bend in the Mahaweli River. The garden has over 4,000 different species of plants, and is regarded amongst the best in Asia. The highlight is the spectacular orchid collection and an avenue of palm trees.
